What is it about?

In this session, attachment theory and ideas of trauma are used to take an intergenerational perspective to the impacts of climate change.

We consider and acknowledge the anger that is often aimed at ‘older generations’. It is argued that maintaining and repairing attachments is vital for young people’s wellbeing and resilience, as well as for the harmonious functioning of societies as a whole.

Making reference to the ARC framework (Attachment, Regulation, Competence) and Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, we then consider the opportunities to address climate distress and climate action through intergenerational relationships.
