ICCFR: Understanding and Supporting Families without Borders: Francesco Belletti

Francesco Belletti, Milan, Italy

Throughout my professional life, I strongly believed that the international dimension is essential for interpreting any social change. To better understand the value and changes of the family, it is crucial to compare the differences between different cultures, geographical areas, socio-economic conditions, both at the macro- and at micro-social levels. I have always sought opportunities for international discussion, in Italy and abroad, among researchers, scholars and family associations, through conferences, membership in projects and collaborative networks.

That is why in the years 2014-2015 I enthusiastically accepted a proposal to collaborate in organizing an International Conference of ICCFR, a network I was already familiar with from previous years.  The collaboration produced the 63rd ICCFR International Conference “Strong Families, Strong Societies”, held in Italy (Trento, 17-19 June 2016), with more than 330 participants. From that year on, I joined ICCFR’s activities as an active Council member, and I have not stopped yet…

It is not always easy to collaborate on international pathways. The global pandemic dealt a severe blow to our work together, limiting the precious opportunities of frequent face-to-face meetings hosted in different countries. But I gladly remain in this network, where I find high-profile expertise and a strong desire and interest in interdisciplinary dialogue, with the highest respect for cultural diversity. The path of collaboration turned into trust and friendship with many people from different countries, cultures and professions: a precious and rare treasure.
