The International Commission on Couple and Family Relations (ICCFR) is pleased to announce its call for Workshop Presenters for the upcoming 2026 ICCFR Conference titled:
“Bridging Cultures, Building Families: Exploring the Dynamics of Multicultural Families”
Families today are more diverse than ever before. Families tomorrow will be even more diverse.
This international multidisciplinary conference invites researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore the evolving realities of bi and multicultural couples and families in a globalised world.
While culturally diverse families share similar needs with other families, they often face additional unique challenges, of which some might arise within the family and others result from external factors, such as a lack of diversity-sensitive services.
Based in the UK, the ICCFR is an international organisation offering a unique opportunity for social services, caring professionals, researchers, legal and policy experts to convene and examine contemporary issues affecting diverse families. Established in 1953, the ongoing networking value of relationships cultivated through ICCFR is unparalleled.
For the 70th ICCFR Conference, we are delighted to announce our partnership with the Centre for Family Studies at the University of Applied Sciences Odisee in Belgium. This year’s conference will be hosted on their Schaerbeek campus, located at Avenue Huart Hamoir 136, 1030 Schaerbeek, Belgium.
Call for Workshop Proposals
The Conference Workshop is an excellent opportunity for practitioners, researchers and Ph.D. students to share their work and facilitate further discussion of practical applications of ideas. The value of initiating and maintaining international connections cannot be overstated.
We welcome abstracts for presentations that address the following themes:
- How do migration histories and transnational ties shape bi and multicultural relationships?
- Relationship dynamics and acculturation: how to navigate differences in language, religion, social status, and experiences of discrimination. Which strategies for managing intercultural tensions and fostering mutual understanding?
- How do bi and multicultural families engage with and adapt to diverse social environments?
- Parenting ‘mixed’ children: finding a balance between differences and similarities in raising children.
- What factors contribute to the stability and resilience of bicultural couples? What do help-seeking behaviours and support needs across different contexts look like? What structural, social, legal or cultural barriers hinder their well-being?
Workshop durations are 90 minutes which would include a Q&A.
